Course Description

Frolic through cool pine forests and gorgeous wildflower-filled meadows along the rumbling Middle Fork of the Popo Agie River.  This is a great race for anyone looking for a fun and interesting challenge.

  • From the start at Bruce’s Parking Area: Head down the canyon on a rocky trail until you reach your first junction. Turn left and head down along the Middle Fork of the Popo Agie River. When you reach the picnic table near the Forest Service Campground, turn left over the small footbridge. Continue past (not over) the larger bridge on the single track trail. Follow the river down the canyon loop towards the Aspen Grade Trail. When you hit the Aspen Grade junction, turn left to head up a steep and technical trail for about 3/4 of a mile. You will meet up with the Brewer’s Trail at the next junction where you will turn left to head up the trail unit you meet up with the Loop Road..

  • Brewer’s Junction: Run up the paved road for about 3/4 of a mile and get off the road to the right of the switchback. From there you’ll ascend up the “snowmobile track” (there is no snow, I promise) through wildflowers, meadows, and lot’s of rocks. Turn left on a brand new, but smooth, single track to go to the Fossil Hill Aid Station.

  • Fossil Hill AS: Leave the Aid Station on the trail between the pit toilet and forest service sign. This trail will eventually cross the road below the cattle guard and meet up with the Brewer’s Trail. Traverse alongside Fossil Hill, catch the views of the Wind River Mountains, smell the wildflowers, then plunge back down into the Sinks Canyon on a semi-technical single track. Stay on Brewer’s trail until you reach the bottom of the canyon, head left, and run on the 2-track for 1/2 mile until you are back at the Parking Area for the finish line.

The finish line closes at 4:00 pm. No other cutoff times will be enforced.

Crew Directions

  • Directions to Fossil Hill (Mile 25) from Start/Finish: Head up the canyon switchbacks (west) on Louis Lake Road (aka The Loop Road). You will drive up several switchbacks for 4.5 miles until you reach the parking area at the base of Fossil Hill. The aid station will be set up in the parking area.
